Su manera de encarar el mundo no es lineal, ordenada y secuencial. 

Observa la realidad de un modo global; es decir, no se detiene en las partes que componen un todo, sino en lo que ellas conforman en conjunto. 

El lado derecho del cerebro, además, está más ligado a la intuición y a los sentimientos. 

Como decía Pascal: "El corazón tiene sus razones, que la razón no comprende".

El problema es que nuestra visión de las cosas está siendo constantemente interferida y corregida por el lado izquierdo. 

Éste nos dice lo que "debemos" ver, alterando lo que "realmente" vemos. 

A veces, si estamos un tanto chalados, veremos de un modo muy especial nuestro entorno.

Las hermanitas Quevedo autoras chilenas de unas inefables obras literarias decían que la Torre de Pisa es: "gótica por dentro e inclinada por fuera". 

Pero, sin ir tan lejos, usted mismo puede tener un gato sentado unos diez metros delante suyo y "saber" que ese felino tendría que aumentar cuarenta, cincuenta o más veces de tamaño para impedirle ver el enorme álamo que se alza a una cuadra de distancia. 

Pero eso es lo que usted piensa (y tiene razón), aunque no es lo que realmente percibe.

Un pintor no lo ve así. 

Él, desde su asiento, medirá con el lápiz de dibujo el tamaño que el gato tiene para sus ojos. 

Es decir, un par de centímetros. 

Y luego, aplicará esa medida en el árbol, estableciendo que éste se ve sólo unas cinco o seis veces más alto que el gato.

Betty Edwards, profesora de arte en la Universidad del estado de California, sostiene que todos podemos reeducar el lado derecho del cerebro, liberándolo de la esclavitud racionalista de su vecino. 

Podemos así darnos cuenta de cómo vemos efectivamente el mundo. 

Para ello, comenzó ideando un original método de dibujo, destinado a neutralizar la habitual interferencia dominante del ámbito militarista del cerebro.

Yo, que dibujo como lo hacía a los siete años, ensayé un aspecto muy insignificante del método Edwards y quedé asombrado del prodigioso artista que soy. 

Claro está que llegué apenas al "realismo socialista", pero algo es algo.

Haga usted mismo la experiencia: tome la imagen de un dibujo. 

Yo elegí "La Odalisca" de Matisse, ni más ni menos. 

Póngalo al revés patas para arriba y tape unos dos tercios del dibujo con una hoja en blanco. 

Luego, comience a reproducir lo más exactamente posible lo que ve en el tercio inferior y continúe el dibujo subiendo la hoja gradualmente. 

No entenderá un carajo qué demonios está dibujando. 

Más aún, le dará mucha rabia al lado izquierdista de su cerebro, pero continúe con paciencia. 

Se asombrará de lo que usted es capaz de hacer. 

Y, créame, Betty Edwards, liberándonos de la dictadura del sector dominante de la masa encefálica, enseña muchas cosas más que la técnica del dibujo.
